Make a JPG or PNG background transparent

1. Upload a JPG or PNG

Choose a JPG, JPEG, or PNG, or drop it anywhere on this page. Your image stays in your browser while you edit it.

2. Choose the color and tolerance

White is selected by default. Pick another color if your background is different, then adjust the color tolerance. At 0%, only the exact color is removed. Higher values also remove similar colors. All matching areas become transparent, including any inside the subject. This works best with a solid color background.

3. Check the preview and download

The checkerboard shows transparent areas and is not part of the downloaded image. The preview updates as you change the settings. Download the result as a PNG when it looks right. JPG files cannot store transparency, so both JPG and PNG uploads are saved as PNGs. Existing transparency is preserved, and lowering the tolerance restores pixels from your original image.
